Work in Progress

I’m writing a novel.

I want to put that in writing before I lose my nerve. I’ve got an idea I actually like, which for me is rare enough. I’ve got a structure sketched out. And I’ve got a first chapter written, which means this is no longer just a thing I’ve got going in the back of my head.

It’s set in Door County, Wisconsin. If you know me, you know why. There’s something about that mix of lake, small towns, and long summer nights waiting for a story.

You probably want a teaser. Here you go: a girl goes missing on a night when the sky itself seems to go wrong, and nobody believes the two people who actually know what happened. That’s as much as I’ll say for now. I don’t want to talk the story to death before it exists.

This is a long game. I’m not promising a finished draft by a certain date, and I’m not going to pretend a first chapter means the hard part is over. But I wanted to mark the start of it somewhere, so future me has to look back at this post and explain what happened to the rest of it.

One more thing… it’s called Kaleidoscope Sky.
