Bobby Hauck Has Gone Fishing

I was more than a little shocked to learn that Illinois Football parted ways with its new Defensive Coordinator, Bobby Hauck, after just four games.

It looks like Hauck asked Bret Bielema to meet early Sunday. Whatever happened, that meeting led Hauck to decide East Central Illinois ain’t for him.

The defense had been a mess. Ten guys on the field against Duke. Nine against Ohio State. Players ran out, stopped, and jogged back to the sideline. Players were unhappy with the system and the communication, and they looked confused, then like they were overthinking.

Somebody had to say it out loud. If Hauck said it first, good for him.

So now, somebody new will have to step up and call the plays. Maybe a few somebody’s on the defense will step up. Maybe the communication issues will be resolved. Maybe.

I don’t know how this is gonna go. We’ll find out on Saturday.
